Ain't Nothing To It But To Do It

I know it isn't what you want to hear, but all the preparation in the world won’t get you ready for joining a gym.

Have you ever heard someone say that "they're just not fit enough to join a gym" or "they need to lose some weight before they join". 

I have on so many different occasions. And you know what, I call bullshit.

It can be intimidating entering a new environment, especially when you may see people who from your perspective are already ‘there’. And it's easy to see these people, you know the ones who breeze through workouts, and think that they have always been like that. But this is rarely the case. 

Everyone has to go through the same learning phase as you will. Of course some people will hang out in this phase longer than others but if you've already decided that you can't, well then you'll never give yourself the chance to succeed.

Saying you’re not fit enough to join a gym is like saying you’re not educated enough to go to school.

Getting fit is what happens during your time at the gym, not prior.

My advice? (Pretty famous advice actually)

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

  1. Join the gym

  2. Turn up to class

  3. Do the work.

Then repeat steps 2 and 3 again and again. Each time you turn up to class and do the work I promise you it will get easier and you will get better. Take pride in learning new skills and challenging yourself.

Know that you won't be perfect (no one is) and at the beginning you will have the voice of doubt plaguing your thoughts. But hey, you might even surprise yourself and have fun in the process!
